Trends: Dramatic Deceleration Implies Negative Guidance

In an industry wide trend.  Our email data has detected explosive growth in promotional email campaigns.  However, for several mall-based retailers we did not see an associated improvement in online activity.  One subsector where this problem has been most obvious is athletic footwear.  From Nike(NKE), to retailers Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS), Finish Line(FINL) and Foot Locker (FL).  Despite the presence of new coupons for big discounts, our web panel indicates a lack of consumer response.
